Broadway: The Color Purple, Motown, Scandalous, Hello, Dolly!, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bandstand, Newsies, Memphis. National Tours: Memphis, Dreamgirls. Off-Broadway: Big River, Cabin in the Sky, Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Featured pianist: LaChanze, Jennifer Hudson, Heather Headley, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Ragtime on Ellis Island with Brian Stokes Mitchell. Originally from DC, Alvin has performed at the Kennedy Center, White House and Capitol and has two degrees in meteorology (yes, you read that correctly) from Harvard and Georgia Tech. He sends love to his wife Rebecca and their first child Samuel, who was born in March 2017.

On December 26, Merrily We Roll Along was postponed due to technical issues, causing the audience to wait for an hour before it was finally canceled. As a result of a cold front during the holiday weekend, necessary production equipment froze up. Despite this, Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez took time out of their busy schedules to give the audience a private talkback about Merrily! Now, in a sumptuously mounted revival touring the country, director/choreographer Robert Longbottom - who made his Broadway debut with Side Show, a musical of similar themes (again with music by Henry Krieger) that had the same visceral impact on me - has re-fashioned Dreamgirls for the new millennium, while remaining faithful to the original material. The result is musical theater at its best, telling a universal tale filled with onstage spectacle and backstage drama that is as stunning and as moving as the Broadway original.
