Tonight in SPOON RIVER is based on Edgar Lee Masters masterwork of free-verse poems written in 1915 Spoon River Anthology. It takes place on a hillside cemetery where we meet the ghosts of the small fictional town Spoon River. Masters wrote the epitaphs of the dearly departed as a remembrance of the fair, tender-hearted souls he recalled from his home town of Lewiston, Ohio, where he lived as a young boy (and, ironically where his book was banned!) In this staged adaptation, we meet the souls of the village who awaken to share their lives through tales of love and lost love, tales of war on the battlefield and in the home, tales told with humor, joy and grief by gossips and scholars, the faithful and the wrong doers, all in celebration of their time as fellow travelers here on Earth. Their stories are tied together with music from the American Folk Tune song book which brings our Hill alive in music and prose. Rising from the dead to greet us, they share their stories hoping, perhaps, to find forgiveness, redemption, understanding, or just to rejoice in who they were while traversing the human plane. The talented cast of nine actors who play over 65 characters includes: Abe Daniels, Dawn Davis, Shannon Mary Dixon, Kevin Hayles, Morgan Phoenix, Larry Scarano, Kurt Schauppner, Jesse Sheckler, and Shelly Sheckler.House opens at 7:30 pm and the play will start promptly at 8:15pm. Please be on time as it is difficult to seat once the play starts. Aho
