Inspired by historical conflicts in Upstate New York, this gripping play follows Private Thomas Lee Doxdater, a Haudenosaunee serving in the United States National Guard who, during a protest over highway expansion through his nation's territory, is forced to choose between his livelihood and loyalty to his people. Doxdater's subsequent actions take him on a journey of whether to be a fugitive and potentially put his community in great danger or turn himself into the military authorities and face the consequences of the system in which he has been trained.
