Poster House, the first museum in the United States dedicated to the global history of posters, will hold its first free Winter Family Day on December 7, 2025 10:00AM to 3:00PM at Poster House, 119 West 23rd Street in Manhattan. Admission to Winter Family Day is free, offering a day filled with interactive workshops for children and their guardians. In addition to these workshops, the two main exhibitions currently on display at Poster House are: The Future Was Then: The Changing Face of Fascist Italy and Blazing A Trail: Dorothy Waugh’s National Parks Posters – open through February 22, 2026. The two capsule exhibitions on show are: Utopia in Our Time: The Posters of Molly Crabapple and Art for Art House: The Posters of Peter Strausfeld, which are on view through April 12, 2026.
Winter Family Day events include:
10AM–12PM: Make Your Own Terrazzo Bowls
Join Poster House educators in creating your own terrazzo-inspired clay bowl. Using kid-safe Air Dry clay, we will form our own small bowls and decorate them with multicolored glass mosaic tiles. Participants will leave with a finished piece inspired by the speckled beauty of Italian terrazzo stone.
This program welcomes children ages 5+ and their adults. It is not a drop-off program.
10AM–3PM: Button Making!
Join Poster House’s educators for a hands-on button-making workshop. Design and create your own wearable art inspired by the museum’s latest exhibitions! All materials are provided—just bring your creativity and leave with an awesome button to show off.
This program welcomes children ages 4+ and their adults. It is not a drop-off program.
11AM–2PM: Natural Dye Watercolor Workshop with Textile Arts Center
Join the Textile Arts Center to learn about harvesting natural dyes from our backyard and surrounding environments. Participants of all ages will create watercolor paints using teas, flowers, and plants. Painters will harness the beauty of our natural environment, using their creativity and curiosity to explore how changes to pH levels can change the color of natural dyes.
This program welcomes children of all ages and their adults. It is not a drop-off program.
11AM–1PM: Explore the Urban Wilderness!
Join the Urban Park Rangers of NYC Parks to learn more about the diverse wildlife and ecosystems within New York City. Learn about why these resources are valuable and necessary to us through visual aids and contact with various bio artifacts.
This program welcomes children of all ages and their adults. It is not a drop-off program.
1PM–3PM: Letterpress Printing
Letterpress printing is one of the oldest printmaking techniques, used to make books, pamphlets, newspapers, and posters. Today, it is still an important part of graphic design. Explore the history of printmaking through letterpress printing as you create your own message with real wood type!
This program welcomes children ages 3+ and their adults. It is not a drop-off program.
