BROADWAY BODS PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE WORKSHOP OF BODY NEGATIVE BY SARAH GALANTE
A surreal, darkly comic new play about diet culture, corporate control, and reclaiming the body, from the writer of Swallow Me Whole runs July 10–12 at Speyer Hall
NEW YORK, NY — Following the successful 2025 run of Swallow Me Whole at The Tank, Broadway Bods, New York City's first fat-positive nonprofit theatre company, presents the world premiere of playwright Sarah Galante's newest work, Body Negative.
A local weight-loss support group gathers every Saturday in a high school gym. But when a visit from corporate, and a sentient talking scale, throws their routine into disarray, the group spirals into something far more sinister. Body Negative becomes a surreal takedown of diet culture. Blending absurdity with stark realism, the play asks what it means to reclaim your body in a world that keeps trying to sell it back to you.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Sarah Galante (she/her) is a queer playwright and fat activist based in Brooklyn, whose work blends absurdism, dark humor, and emotional realism to center fat bodies onstage and interrogate systems of power, shame, and survival. Her plays include Melinda/Melissa/Melody, Swallow Me Whole (recipient of the Paula Vogel Playwriting Award and the Jean Kennedy Smith Award; O'Neill Playwrights Conference Semi-Finalist), and Body Negative (Blue Ink Award Finalist; O'Neill Playwrights Conference Semi-Finalist). She is a 2026 Writer in Residence with the New Harmony Project, a New Georges Affiliated Artist, and a former Core Apprentice at the Playwrights' Center under the mentorship of Jen Silverman. Sarah is currently pursuing her MFA in Dramatic Writing at NYU and creates theater that is fantastical, fat, and irreverent — deeply invested in who gets to be seen, heard, and taken seriously onstage.
