Brett Smock and Drew Brody will present a reading of the new musical, The Mudge Boy today, October 30th, 2012. This powerful, controversial new work is based on Michael Burke's film, The Mudge Boy and has been in development for several years.

Duncan Mudge has just lost his mother and is grappling with the emotional vacuum and a despondent, grief-stricken father. A small town in Vermont and its close-knit inhabitants weave in and out of his journey, creating a gripping portrait of family, loss, acceptance and what lies beneath in rural, adolescent America. The Mudge Boy addresses issues of teen and family violence, bullying and cruelty while deconstructing the voyage to identity faced by every teenager.

Music and lyrics are by Drew Brody with book and direction by Brett Smock.

The reading will feature Ann Crumb (Irene), Christopher Carl (Edgar Mudge), James Crichton (Duncan Mudge), John Arthur Greene (Perry Foley), Jennifer Simard (Emily Foley), Mike Masters (Juster / Merritt Foley), Lilli Cooper (April), Caitlin Kinnunen (Tonya), Bart Mather (Travis), Jim Schubin (Scotty).

Please note that The Mudge Boy has very strong language, aggressive sexual situations and adult themes.
