ALESSANDRA CORONA PERFORMING WORKS DANCE COMPANY PRESENTS FALL SEASON 2026 AT AILEY CITIGROUP THEATER
December 3rd, 2026 at 7:30 PM
Featuring Unexpected Gift, Chew, and Carmen (Work in Progress)
Alessandra Corona Performing Works (ACPW) presents its Fall Season 2026 on Thursday, December 3, 2026 at 7:30 PM at Ailey Citigroup Theater (405 West 55th Street) in New York City.
Led by Artistic Director and choreographer Alessandra Corona, the evening brings together three distinct works that explore grief, identity, resilience, power, and transformation through contemporary dance. The program features Unexpected Gift, choreographed by Alessandra Corona; Chew, choreographed by Madeline Burr; and Carmen, a new work-in-progress choreographed by Alessandra Corona and Pascal Johnson in collaboration with the Company.
The evening reflects ACPW’s commitment to developing new choreography through a collaborative process, bringing together different artistic voices while maintaining a distinctive physical and emotional language.
Unexpected Gift
Choreographed by Alessandra Corona in collaboration with the Company, Unexpected Gift uses the physical language of the body to navigate the non-linear journey of grief and the human capacity for resilience. The work proposes that healing and comfort can emerge as an internal gift within each of us.
The piece features original music by Thomas Lentakis, with additional music by Ran Bagno.
Chew
Choreographed by Madeline Burr in collaboration with the Company, Chew examines labels, appearances, and the instability of identity. The work moves between a tightly held sense of self and complete disintegration, asking what happens when repetition gives way to chaos and when rage, humor, or exhaustion breaks through the surface.
Through a cycle of being built up, dismantled, and reshaped, the dancers enter a world where identity is continuously consumed and reconstructed.
Music includes works by Colin Stetson and Arcade Fire & Owen Pallett.
Carmen — Work in Progress
The evening will also feature a preview of Carmen, a new contemporary dance work choreographed by Alessandra Corona and Pascal Johnson in collaboration with the Company.
Inspired by the timeless story of Carmen, the work reimagines its themes through the physical and emotional language of contemporary dance. Rather than simply retelling the familiar narrative, the developing work investigates questions of freedom, power, desire, courage, and the choices that shape our lives.
The score incorporates music by Georges Bizet, performed by the Ukrainian State Symphony, alongside music by Ran Bagno and original music by Thomas Lentakis.
Carmen represents an important new chapter for ACPW as the company develops Corona's first full-length ballet. The work is currently in progress, with this performance offering audiences an opportunity to experience the developing piece as it takes shape.
