AUDITION PREPARATION:
Prepare 32 measures of a song that shows off your range. (legit Broadway preferred; stay away from Pop and Rock). A song from the show is fine. Bring sheet music in the correct key, an accompanist will be provided. Wear comfortable clothes, you may be asked to learn a clogging combination.
PLEASE BRING ALL CONFLICTS YOU MAY HAVE FROM LABOR DAY THROUGH TO THE FINAL PERFORMANCE ON NOVEMBER 5TH. YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE ENTIRE TECH WEEK OF THE PRODUCTION FROM OCTOBER 20 – OCTOBER 26TH.
This is vital information as the rehearsal schedule will be made from this information.
CASTING BREAKDOWN: ALL ROLES OPEN
FRANCESCA: mid-30’s – mid 50’s. WW2 Italian (accent required) refugee who married an American soldier and moved to America to build a life and have a family. She has started to realize there is something missing; possibly more to life than Iowa. Warm, practical, very smart and funny. A little sad. Legit soprano – this is a massive sing.
ROBERT: mid 30’s – mid 50’s. Hunky, dangerous, focused on his art and comfortable in his skin. Listens to his own voice. Fit body (his shirt is off a lot). He could be a hunky Italian stud - as on Broadway, or a lean esthetic poet; an artist – an older Pippin – as in the book. There are many kinds of sexy. Legit baritone/tenor.
PLEASE NOTE: I want to stay loose about Fran and Roberts’ ages. The book, film and musical have them all at different ages; the film has a 2-decade gap. It’s imperative that they have enormous chemistry and sexual heat. But 38 years old and up. No younger.

BUD: 40-55. Fran’s farmer husband. Good hearted, nice looking, solid. A good person. Loves his family and his life, and knows he lucked out marrying Fran. Maybe she’s a little bit more interesting than he? Legit Baritone. Note: He is, for Iowa, a catch. He must be appealing so we understand why Fran is torn.
MARGE: Late 30s – 55. Fran’s neighbor and probably her best friend. Joyous, funny, loving life. Perceptive (she knows about Fran and Robert) and smarter than most. She keeps Fran’s secret and possibly shares her emptiness. Big belt, Country is OK.
CHARLIE: late 30s-55. Marge’s beer drinking, football loving husband. Bud’s pal. Solid voice.
MICHAEL: 17. Fran’s son. Gangly, enthusiastic. Can’t wait for his life to start. Solid sound.
CAROLYN: 13-14. Fran’s daughter. Awkward, unsure, and desperate to not end up a farmer’s wife. Her Mother’s daughter. Soprano.

THE FOLLOWING 2 ROLES CAN DOUBLE OR BE CAST INDIVIDUALLY:
MARION: 35-40. Robert’s ex-wife. Pretty and simple. A 1960’s folk singer type with a belt and/or country wail. Playing the guitar is helpful but not required.
CHIARA: Fran’s Italian sister. Used sex to get through WW2. Slutty.

ENSEMBLE: 5 to 6 singers who act. Late teens to late 50’s. Men and women. To play a multitude of roles, some solo work. Looking for a few who can clog. These are real people who are a part of Fran’s and Bud’s life.
