Vanya 50-65

Vanya is a middle-aged man who has spent most of his life caring for his family and living in the shadow of his famous sister, Masha. Intelligent, sensitive, and deeply frustrated, he feels that life has passed him by. He longs for connection and meaning but is often paralyzed by nostalgia and pessimism. Beneath his complaints is a man who desperately wants to be seen, valued, and loved.

Sonia 50-65

Sonia is Vanya’s adopted sister, a deeply insecure woman who has also devoted her life to caring for others. She feels unattractive, unwanted, and incapable of creating a life of her own. Sonia's journey is ultimately about discovering that she may have more life ahead of her than she has allowed herself to imagine.

Spike 20-30

Spike is Masha's young, handsome boyfriend—a Hollywood actor whose confidence far exceeds his talent. He is narcissistic, sexually charged, impulsive, and largely oblivious to the emotional effect he has on others. Beneath his superficiality, however, there is a certain vulnerability and uncertainty.

Cassandra any age

Cassandra is the family's outspoken housekeeper, named after the prophetess from Greek mythology who could foresee the future but was never believed. She is eccentric, dramatic, and prone to making dire predictions about what is coming. Her prophecies are both comic and unsettling—and she often sees the emotional truth of the situation more clearly than anyone else.

Nina 20-30

Nina is young, energetic, idealistic, and emotionally open. She should have energy, curiosity, confidence, and a sense that the world is still opening up for her
