PRODUCTION SCHEDULE

Rehearsals begin January 17, 2027.

Performances run March 5–28, 2027. Performers must be available for all technical rehearsals and performances. A complete rehearsal and performance schedule will be provided at auditions.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Please prepare 16–32 bars, or approximately one minute, of a song in the style of the show. Do not select a song from Brigadoon. Bring sheet music in the appropriate key for the accompanist. A cappella singing and recorded accompaniment are not permitted.

Auditions will also include a dance combination taught by the choreographer. Please wear or bring clothing and shoes that allow you to move safely and comfortably. Several roles require strong dance ability, but dancers and performers of all experience levels are encouraged to audition.

Please bring:

• Sheet music for your prepared vocal selection
• A current headshot and résumé, if available
• A complete list of scheduling conflicts
• A completed audition form

Walk-ins are welcome, but auditioners are encouraged to sign up online at dmtc.org. The audition form may be completed digitally in advance or on paper at the audition.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

While traveling through the Scottish Highlands, New Yorkers Tommy Albright and Jeff Douglas stumble upon Brigadoon, a mysterious village that appears for only one day every 100 years. When Tommy meets and falls in love with Fiona MacLaren, he must decide whether to return to the life he knows or remain with her in Brigadoon forever.

Featuring such beloved songs as “Waitin’ for My Dearie,” “I’ll Go Home with Bonnie Jean,” “Come to Me, Bend to Me,” “Almost Like Being in Love,” “There But for You Go I,” “The Heather on the Hill,” and “My Mother’s Weddin’ Day,” Brigadoon is a romantic Scottish fantasy about love, belonging, and the courage to choose an extraordinary life.

Recommended for audiences ages 8 and older.

AVAILABLE ROLES

All roles are open. DMTC does not pre-cast. DMTC welcomes performers of all backgrounds and encourages auditioners to consider any role with which they identify. Listed vocal ranges and casting requirements are approximate and may be adjusted at the discretion of the production team.

Fiona MacLaren: A bright, graceful, and warmhearted young woman with a gentle sense of humor and an enduring faith in true love. Fiona has long waited for the right person and finds herself drawn to Tommy despite the impossible circumstances surrounding them. Requires a strong legit soprano with emotional depth and romantic warmth.

Tommy Albright: A successful young New Yorker who appears to have everything but senses that something is missing from his life. His unexpected arrival in Brigadoon—and his love for Fiona—forces him to decide what he truly values. Requires a strong tenor or baritone and an expressive leading actor.

Charlie Dalrymple: A joyful and romantic young villager preparing to marry Jean MacLaren. Charlie is earnest, exuberant, and deeply in love. Requires a strong lyric tenor.

Jean MacLaren: Fiona’s younger sister and Charlie’s bride-to-be. Jean is shy, affectionate, and excited to begin her new life. This is a prominently featured dance role requiring a strong dancer.

Meg Brockie: A bold, flirtatious, and uninhibited village milkmaid who sets her sights on Jeff. Meg is spirited, persistent, and one of the show’s principal sources of comedy. Requires excellent comedic instincts and a strong Broadway-style belt.

Jeff Douglas: Tommy’s sarcastic but good-natured traveling companion. Practical and skeptical, Jeff provides a humorous counterpoint to Tommy’s romantic idealism. Strong comedic acting role. Non-singing.

Harry Beaton: A sensitive and scholarly young villager whose unrequited love for Jean has left him bitter and despondent. Harry’s pain and desperation threaten the future of Brigadoon. Requires a strong dramatic actor and dancer.

Andrew MacLaren: Fiona and Jean’s loving but somewhat pompous father. He is warmhearted, traditional, and deeply involved in preparations for Jean’s wedding. Sings with the ensemble.

Archie Beaton: Harry’s good-hearted father, a cloth weaver and seller who is deeply concerned about his troubled son. Requires a strong character actor. Sings with the ensemble.

Mr. Lundie: Brigadoon’s wise and kindly schoolmaster. Mr. Lundie understands the village’s history and explains the miracle that protects it from the outside world. Requires warmth, authority, and strong storytelling ability. Non-singing.

Maggie Anderson: A young villager in love with Harry despite his feelings for Jean. Maggie’s heartbreak becomes an important part of the story’s emotional and physical storytelling. Featured ballet role requiring a strong dancer.

Ensemble: The townspeople of Brigadoon form the heart of the production. The ensemble is heavily featured throughout the show and requires singers and dancers with strong characterization and musicality. Dance styles may include traditional Scottish-inspired movement and ballet.

Featured roles cast from the ensemble may include:

• Jane Ashton, Tommy’s sophisticated and somewhat self-absorbed fiancée
• Frank, a bartender in New York City
• Angus MacGuffie, a village merchant who sells milk alongside Meg
• Sandy Dean, a village merchant who sells candy
• Stuart Dalrymple, a member of Charlie’s family
