CASTING TONI & RIVER — APPROPRIATE
Brooklyn College MFA Directing I Scene Study

Seeking two non-Equity actors for a scene from Appropriate as part of Brooklyn College’s MFA Directing I course. This is an opportunity for focused collaboration, text exploration, and classroom feedback.

ROLES

ANTOINETTE “TONI” LAFAYETTE
White woman, playing late 40s–early 50s. The oldest Lafayette sibling. Seeking an actor interested in emotional complexity, restraint, and precise shifts in behavior.

RIVER RAYNER
White woman, playing early 20s with a younger appearance. The fiancée of Toni’s younger brother, Franz. Seeking an actor with strong listening skills and an interest in exploring the tension between personal conviction and an unfamiliar family dynamic.

REHEARSAL PERIOD & COMMITMENT

Please provide general availability and known conflicts between September 9 and October 2, 2026. Daily availability throughout this period is not required.

The initial commitment is approximately three two-hour rehearsals plus the October 2 class presentation. Rehearsals will be arranged around mutual availability after casting. Independent preparation and travel are additional. Actors should be comfortable learning the material and working toward an off-book presentation.

The course’s final presentation is December 18, 2026. Any participation in that showing, repeat presentations, or additional rehearsals will be discussed before actors commit.

No new self-tape is required for the initial submission. Selected actors will be contacted for a brief conversation and scene reading by appointment.

September 9 is the email submission deadline, not an in-person open-call date.
