PLOT SYNOPSIS
Come From Away is based on the remarkable true story of the thousands of airline passengers diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, following the attacks of September 11, 2001. When 38 planes carrying people from around the world unexpectedly land in this isolated community, the population of the small town nearly doubles overnight.
Despite limited resources, cultural differences, and uncertainty about what lies ahead, the people of Gander open their homes and hearts to the stranded travelers. Told through an energetic ensemble and a stirring folk-inspired score, Come From Away is a celebration of compassion, resilience, and the connections people create during extraordinary circumstances.
Recommended for audiences ages 10 and older.
*Come From Away contains mature themes, references to the September 11 attacks, grief, death, anxiety, prejudice, and Islamophobia.*
AVAILABLE ROLES
All roles are open. DMTC does not pre-cast. DMTC welcomes performers of all backgrounds and encourages auditioners to consider any role with which they identify.
Come From Away is an ensemble-driven production performed by 12 principal actors, each portraying multiple characters. Every performer must create several distinct identities through changes in voice, physicality, and characterization. The company remains active throughout much of the production, and strong ensemble instincts, musicality, storytelling ability, and stamina are essential.
