FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!THE PROFESSOR CARL NIVALE SHOWAfter twenty-three years of being a fixture on New Orleans television during the Carnival season, Professor Carl Nivale makes his stage debut this February in his own show, the aptly-named The Professor Carl Nivale Show! An evening of history, culture, music, and Carnival fun for all ages. The show opens at the charming Bayou Playhouse in Lockport, LA on February 21st for three performances only!Since 1996, Professor Carl Nivale has appeared every Carnival season and Mardi Gras morning on the WWL-TV Morning Show to report on the history and news of the season. During Carnival, the Professor makes frequent appearances at local schools and charitable events, and can be seen each season calling parades from the famous Gallier Hall on St. Charles Avenue.The Professor Carl Nivale Show marks the first time this treasured character has appeared onstage in a full theatrical production. The character was created by award-winning New Orleans actor Vatican Lokey and former Morning Show producer Dionne Butler as a one-off character. However, the Professor was an instant hit, and he soon became an anticipated part of New Orleans Carnival coverage.The show description- Its detention day at Kings College of Carnival Knowledge, and audience members are required to take the Professors class in remedial Mardi Gras. What follows is a lively evening of illustrated historical facts, traditions, etiquette, music of the season, and all-out fun. Joining the Professor (Vatican Lokey) for class is Carnival personality Grand Marshal Marty Graw (multiple award-winning actor/designer Edward R. Cox) and his assistants, actors Camille Griffin and Seth Robichaux. The student audience will be quizzed during the show to win prizes, and of course, king cake will be served! Set design, specialty props and costumes by Edward R. Cox. Produced for Bayou Playhouse by Cindy Griffin.The Professor Carl Nivale Show plays at the Bayou Playhouse Feb. 21st, 22nd, and 24th for three shows only! (The show is not performing on the 23rd.) Tickets are only $23 and benefit the Bayou Playhouse, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to cultural education and enrichment.
