The Habit, written by Cynthia Cleto, is one of eight original works featured in Vanguard Theater's 2026 Illuminating New Voices Festival, running May 2-3 and May 8-9 in Montclair, NJ. The festival showcases new works in development from emerging playwrights and multidisciplinary artists, with a focus on diverse voices and original storytelling. This year's works share a common thread, exploring autonomy, identity, and resistance — what happens when who we are becomes something outside of our control, and the ways we attempt to reclaim ourselves.
