In Emily's Words, written by Jessy Tomsko, is part of Vanguard Theater's 2026 Illuminating New Voices Festival, a celebration of new work and emerging playwrights held over two weekends in May. The festival features eight original works in development, united by themes of autonomy, identity, and resistance—exploring what happens when who we are becomes something outside of our control and the ways we attempt to reclaim ourselves. Produced by Lenyx Rose and Imani Nyame, the festival reflects Vanguard Theater's commitment to amplifying diverse voices and expanding access to the arts.
