THERESA, written by Naomi Lorrain, is part of Vanguard Theater's 2026 Illuminating New Voices Festival, a celebration of new work featuring eight original pieces in development across two weekends. The festival, curated by producers Lenyx Rose and Imani Nyame, explores themes of autonomy, identity, and resistance, following characters who grapple with reclaiming themselves when who they are feels beyond their control. Artistic Director Janeece Freeman Clark has built the festival as a platform for emerging playwrights whose stories challenge inherited narratives and expand the possibilities of theatrical storytelling.
