THE CAPTIVES, written by Barbara Blumenthal-Ehrlich, is part of Vanguard Theater's 2026 Illuminating New Voices Festival, a celebration of new work by emerging playwrights and multidisciplinary artists. The festival features eight original works in development across two weekends, united by themes of autonomy, identity, and resistance. Each work explores what happens when who we are becomes something outside of our control, and the ways we attempt to reclaim ourselves.
