Guthrie Theater director Joe Dowling today announced the appointment of Danielle St. Germain-Gordon as the theater's Director of Development. St. Germain-Gordon comes to the Guthrie from Arena Stage in Washington, DC, where she served as Chief Development Officer since 2011. Prior to that, she spent three years with American Alliance of Museums (AAM) in Washington, DC, most recently as Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

Emilie, Marquise of Chatelet, lives before and beyond her time, skirting the rules of polite society and allowing her only confines to be that of her own brilliant mind. But it is the fragile human heart which adheres to no approved rules. The Marquise examines her position on love, finds it worthy of experimentation, and accepts it as a theory her lifespan may not allow her to prove.

Minneapolis Musical Theatre and Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that MMT's 2013-14 season will feature Twin Cities debuts of Carrie The Musical, Five Course Love and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson at the Trust's New Century Theatre. Carrie The Musical, based on Stephen King's bestselling novel, runs October 4-27, 2013. Five Course Love, a quintet of humorous and witty vignettes about true love, plays January 24-February 16, 2014. The comedic rock musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson will run June 6-29, 2014. This trio of shows will be directed by Steven Meerdink, Minneapolis Musical Theatre's artistic director. Subscription packages are on sale now for $66 and are available online at www.hennepintheatretrust.org/mmt, by calling 612.455.9501 or in person at the New Century Theatre Box Office (ground floor of City Center in downtown Minneapolis). Park Square Theatre to Present New Play SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE ADVENTURES OF THE SUICIDE CLUB, 6/7-7/14

The beguiling thriller SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE SUICIDE CLUB, a new script by Jeffrey Hatcher, takes the Park Square stage next Friday for a week of previews before opening on June 14. A fast-paced mash-up of the unforgettable characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyleand The Suicide Club by Robert Louis Stevenson, this script has its roots in Park Square's last wildly popular homage to the great sleuth, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily (2010). "David Ira Goldstein (Artistic Director of the Arizona Theatre Company, former Artistic Director of Actor's Theatre of Saint Paul) and Jeff Hatcher were in the audience at that show," explains Park Square Artistic Director Richard Cook. "Jeff boasted he could write an even better Sherlock and David Ira said 'then I'll commission it.'" David Mann directs and Steve Hendrickson returns once again as the absurdly smart Holmes, this time in a thriller with multiple murders in which Holmes is either target or suspect. Three performances have been added to meet the demand for tickets.

The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its summertime romance Pride and Prejudice adapted for the stage by Simon Reade based on the novel by Jane Austen in the 200th anniversary of its publication. The production will be directed by Joe Dowling and will feature Erin Krakow (Guthrie: The Importance of Being Earnest; Off-Broadway: The Shanghai Gesture, Prometheus Bound; Television: "Army Wives") as Miss Elizabeth Bennet along with previously announced Vincent Kartheiser (Guthrie: A Christmas Carol, Henry V, Henry IV; Regional theater: Death of the Novel; Film: Untamed Heart, In Time; Television: "Mad Men") as Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Hennepin Theatre Trust today announced the new spring 2013 honorees from Minnesota high schools recognizing musical theatre accomplishments by school and category for the 2012-13 SpotLight Musical Theatre Program. Now in its eighth successful year, SpotLight is Hennepin Theatre Trust's flagship educational initiative which honors and supports Minnesota high school musical theatre students and programs. This year, 56 schools, including nine from greater Minnesota, are presenting musicals made possible by the collaboration of almost 5,000 students and annually seen by an estimated 105,000 audience members.
Guthrie Announces Added Performances of AN ILIAD, Running thru 6/1

The Guthrie Theater today announced three additional performances added to the lauded run of An Iliad, the single-actor storytelling adaptation of Homer's Greek classic about the siege of Troy, featuring Stephen Yoakam as The Poet and directed by Benjamin McGovern (The Edge of Our Bodies, Circle Mirror Transformation). An Iliad is written by Lisa Peterson (director of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Guthrie in 2012, as well as the upcoming production of Clybourne Park opening in June) and Denis O'Hare from a translation of Homer by Robert Fagles. An Iliad, originally slated to run through May 26, will now run through June 1 with 7:30 performances added Thursday through Saturday, May 30 through June 1, in the Guthrie's Dowling Studio.

Taylor Mac's THE FRE Receives MAP Fund Grant; Accepted to Sundance Theatre Lab

Performance artist Taylor Mac is constantly in creative development, but Children's Theatre Company (CTC) charged him with a first - to create an engaging theatrical piece for a multigenerational audience. His work has been seen and praised at theatres, art institutes, and festivals around the world. He was named best cabaret performer of 2012 by Time Out NY. His new theatrical experience The Fre was one of 41 projects nationwide to be honored with a grant from the MAP Fund, receiving $35,000. The Fre is also one of seven projects selected for the Sundance Institute 2013 Theatre Lab. CTC Artistic Director Peter Brosius claims, 'Taylor is fearless and one of the most creative forces in American theatre today; to have this energy, his heart, and his radical vision on our stage is absolutely thrilling.'

The Guthrie Theater today announced that Vincent Kartheiser, known to worldwide audiences as advertising executive Pete Campbell in the ongoing Golden Globe, Emmy and SAG Award-winning series 'Mad Men', will be featured in the iconic role of Mr. Darcy in the theater's upcoming production of Pride and Prejudice based on the novel by Jane Austen, adapted for the stage by Simon Reade and directed by Joe Dowling. The Guthrie today announced that eight artists who have graced the Guthrie's stages during its 50-year history, from the first season in 1963 to the theater's current season, are slated to participate in the Guthrie's 50th anniversary on June 22, 2013. Exclusive interviews with the legendary Zoe Caldwell and Christopher Plummer will be unveiled as part of a poignant and celebratory multi-media tribute, while stage veterans Barbara Bryne, Peter Michael Goetz and Stephen Yoakam; two graduates of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program, Matthew Amendt and Valeri Mudek; and an alum of A Guthrie Experience for Actors in Training, Erik Heger; will perform live for the one-night-only event.
