THE FULL MONTY, with a book by Terrence McNally and music/lyrics by David Yazbek. Adapted from the 1997 British film, THE FULL MONTY is about unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo, NY, who form a male striptease act to make money, finding strength and camaraderie in the process. The show, which premiered on Broadway in 2000, is known for its heartfelt story, pop/rock score, and themes of working-class struggles, self-consciousness, and male bonding, culminating in a now-famous final strip scene. It received nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.
Theatre 55 continues its work of reinterpreting musical works through the lens of age and aging with this production of THE FULL MONTY and a cast of actors 55 and up. If you saw RENT, ROCKY HORROR, or HAIR, you know how very powerful—and fun—this will be!
“Seniors, more than any other age demographic, are famous for resilience and re-inventing themselves. The Full Monty shows us how to overcome the obstacles of real life and discover that with friendship, ingenuity, and community anything is possible.”, says Richard Hitchler, Director.
