Ben Frost, based in Reykjavic, and Tim Hecker, based in Montreal, make their Twin Cities debut with a pair of concerts, each highlighting the work of one with support from the other - a rare opportunity to see them not only in the U.S., but together.
Ben Frost's music is about contrast, influenced as much by classical minimalism as by punk rock and metal. It has a visceral presence, felt as much as heard. A quiet and welcoming humanity underlies his defiant aesthetic with a subtle sense of emotional drama that has increasingly led to work in dance and film. Frost has collaborated with Björk, Amiina, Jóhann Jóhannsson and celebrated Bedroom Community label mates Sam Amidon, Nico Muhly and Valgeir Sigurðsson. His newest release, By The Throat, has received rave reviews.Frost was recently awarded a year of individual mentoring with English musician and composer Brian Eno via the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative 2010-2011. Through an advisory board that recommended the mentors and an expert nominating panel, six talented young artists from around the world were chosen to work alongside six major artists in the fields of dance, film, literature, music, theater and visual arts for a year of intense collaboration. http://www.rolexmentorprotege.com/en/index.jspVideos
