The City of Hopkins and Stages Theatre Company Renew Lease

By: Mar. 28, 2011

The City of Hopkins and Stages Theatre Company (STC) jointly announce the lease renewal which allows STC to maintain its position as the anchor tenant in the Hopkins Center for the Arts for 15 years.

The lease signed on Feb. 15, becomes effective November 2012 through July 2027, renewing the original lease that began in Fall 1998. "I am so happy that this long term agreement has been signed between Stages Theatre Company and the City of Hopkins. It was negotiated in the spirit of collaboration and mutual agreement that the artists, teachers, youth and families we serve here at Stages Theatre Company and in the Hopkins Center for the Arts deserve to have this wonderful home for many years to come," says Stages Theatre Company Artistic Director Sandy Boren-Barrett.

The City of Hopkins acknowledged several factors when renewing the lease including STC's value to the City of Hopkins image and the ability for STC to bring high volumes of people from throughout the state to Downtown Hopkins. STC recognized the excellent design of the theater as a performance space, the City of Hopkins commitment to exceptional maintenance and service to tenants and the City of Hopkins cooperation in sharing the spaces with other tenants.

The Hopkins Center for the Arts is a focal point for arts, education, and entertainment in the center of downtown Hopkins. The Arts Center builds community through the arts by fostering creative expression and providing artistic and educational opportunities for people of all ages.

Stages Theatre Company was founded in 1984 and since then has grown to become one of the largest professional theatres for young audiences in the country. We engage young artists with themes relevant to their lives and involve them in creating magical works featuring young people in meaningful roles. Through theatrical productions, workshops, conservatory classes and other outreach programs, Stages Theatre Company annually serves more than 125,000 young people and their families.
