The Sarasota Ballet enters the New Year with two programs on the winter calendar. A Right Royal Affair runs with five shows opening at 8 pm, Friday, February 4 and running through to a Sunday evening show at 7 pm on February 6, 2011 in the Mertz Theatre at the FSU Center for Performing Arts.

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre announces its ninth season of great theatre, The Best of Broadway. The 2010/2011 season will begin with Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps, an engaging, fast-paced 'whodunit' that celebrates the magic of theatre. The Theatre will continue with the family favorite Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, a colorful retelling of the story of Joseph, his coat of many colors and his amazing ability to interpret dreams. Next up is Cabaret, the energetic, politically charged, seductive and daring Tony-award winning production that is ranked among the greatest American musicals. Then, Red takes a provocative look at Abstract expressionist Mark Rothko, as he works feverishly in his studio on the Bowery to complete the biggest commission in the history of modern art. The smash season ends with the classic Tony Award-winning musical, Hello, Dolly!, which takes us on a whirlwind race around New York at the turn of the twentieth century with America's most beloved matchmaker, Dolly Levi.

The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts will host the world premiere of the new public TV documentary STEVEN CARAS: SEE THEM DANCE on February 24. Presented by Arizona PBS, the film concerns the life and work of Mr. Caras, a former New York City Ballet dancer, who transformed his career to become one of the world's most renowned dance photographers. Currently a resident of West Palm Beach, Caras is also a published author, guest lecturer, ballet master and founding chairman of the Randolph A. Frank Prize for the Performing Arts in Palm Beach. I am a funnyman or so I've been told,' is the opening line of Cledus T. Judd's brand new studio album, which is the 10th of his career. The opening line is certainly dead on, and it's also the entrance to Cledus' first Country music project since his recent and very successful stint as a morning air personality in major market radio. In the liner notes on the new project, Cledus proclaims 'thanks for firing me, otherwise I would have not been able to sing with Kix and Ronnie!' He's alluding to a song on the new album, 'Garth Must Be Busy,' which is a great duet with Brooks and Dunn.

The Garden Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for the second annual spring musical, The Sound of Music. Auditions will be held Monday-Thursday, February 21-24 at the Garden Theatre (160 West Plant Street). This large production requires 19-23 adult females, 4 adult males, 1 teenage female, 1 teenage male, 12 children (ages 5 and up). Children will be double-cast and have alternating performances. Several non-singing roles are also available. Most performers will be asked to sing and dance.

The cast and creative team of Shear Madness arrived in Sarasota this week to begin rehearsals at Florida Studio Theatre. Shear Madness opens February 23 for a limited two-week engagement. The production returns to the Gompertz stage after it ran for nine sold-out weeks last season.
New American Theater Changes With The Season

NAT has set up a complete series of cabaret shows and adjusted the remainder of their mainstage season. They postponed the show 'A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline', originally set to open this weekend, to February 2012. Their next mainstage production, Songs for a New World, has moved up in the line up. The final two shows of the mainstage season have not been announced, as NAT is in the process of securing the rights to these productions. The biggest change is that all shows, cabaret and mainstage, will be presented at their BayWalk location (previously the Ann Taylor store).

Two of Miami's most respected performing arts organizations are collaborating to bring the gospel musical CROWNS to South Florida audiences during Black History Month 2011. The M Ensemble Company opens its 2010-2011 season with its debut performance at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County with the gospel musical CROWNS by Regina Taylor. Adapted from the book by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry, CROWNS runs from February 2-6, 2011 in the Adrienne Arsht Center's Carnival Studio Theater.
