Play titles such as 3 Egg-cellent Eggs, Flipper's Fright, Three Mice Save the Day and The Postman That Bit Back! represent the creativity in the minds of the Young Playwrights. Florida Studio Theatre will celebrate the achievements of the winning playwrights with the Young Playwrights Festival Day on Saturday, May 14, 2011. Over 300 people will travel to Sarasota from as far as Miami and across the seas (Vladimir, Russia, Tel Mond, Israel and Dunfermline, Scotland) to see the plays and receive recognition.

CHINATOWN MIAMI As PlayGround Theatre Premieres 'The Red Thread'

On Sunday, April 17th from 12 pm to 6 pm, everyone is invited to join The PlayGround Theatre's celebration of this newest production by attending CHINATOWN Miami in Miami Shores. CHINATOWN Miami is a Chinese street festival that will fill Miami Shores with the sights, sounds, and tastes of the diverse cultures of China. Six blocks of downtown Miami Shores, NE 2nd Avenue from 94th to 100th streets, will be closed off for CHINATOWN Miami. The Chinese street festival is free and open to the public, and includes a green market, food, arts and crafts vendors, musicians, and shows for children that include magicians and dragons. The 2pm performance of The Red Thread will be followed by a traditional Chinese dragon parade featuring actors from the production, in addition to a post-performance VIP Chinese dining experience next to the theatre (tickets will be required).

The PlayGround Theatre in Miami celebrates its next original production, The Red Thread, with a world premiere weekend, starting with the grand opening performance on Saturday, April 16th at 7 p.m. Inspired by ancient Chinese folktales, The Red Thread tells the story of a young woman's heroic efforts to rescue her father's surprisingly miraculous masterpiece. Funded in part by a $100,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as part of its Knight Arts Challenge, The Red Thread is an original work written by Artistic Director Stephanie Ansin and Artist-in-Residence Fernando Calzadilla.
