The PlayGround Theatre Celebrates Newest Original Production, THE RED THREAD with World Premiere Weekend

The PlayGround Theatre celebrates its newest world premiere original production, The Red Thread, with a full weekend of events, starting with the grand opening performance on Saturday, April 16th at 7 pm.

Inspired by ancient Chinese folktales, The Red Thread tells the story of a young woman's heroic efforts to rescue her father's surprisingly miraculous masterpiece. Funded in part by a $100,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as part of its Knight Arts Challenge, The Red Thread is an original work written by Artistic Director Stephanie Ansin and Artist-in-Residence Fernando Calzadilla.

New to The PlayGround Theatre's ensemble cast are New York actors Christian T. Chan, Christina Jun, and Kate Shine. They join accomplished local actors Melissa Almaguer, TRoy Davidson, Stephen Elliot Kaiser, Marjorie O'Neill-Butler, and Jesús Quintero for The Red Thread.

On Sunday, April 17th from 12 pm to 6 pm, everyone is invited to join The PlayGround Theatre's celebration of this newest production by attending CHINATOWN Miami in Miami Shores. CHINATOWN Miami is a Chinese street festival that will fill Miami Shores with the sights, sounds, and tastes of the diverse cultures of China. Six blocks of downtown Miami Shores, NE 2nd Avenue from 94th to 100th streets, will be closed off for CHINATOWN Miami. The Chinese street festival is free and open to the public, and includes a green market, food, arts and crafts vendors, musicians, and shows for children that include magicians and dragons. The 2pm performance of The Red Thread will be followed by a traditional Chinese dragon parade featuring actors from the production, in addition to a post-performance VIP Chinese dining experience next to the theatre (tickets will be required).

The Red Thread runs April 13th through May 27th and is recommended for ages 8+. For the first time at The PlayGround Theatre, Saturday performances will be at 8pm; Sunday performances are at 2pm, weekday performances at 10am. Tickets are $20; group rates are available.
