New Theatre (THE NEW) continues it's season with the World Premiere of Twain and Shaw Do Lunch, by Chambers Stevens, running December 2 - 18, 2011, in its new intimate home at The Roxy Performing Art Center. In 1907 the world's two greatest living writers had lunch together. This, their first meeting, was monumental. It would be Mrs. Shaw's job to make sure they didn't destroy each other. This witty and based on truth play has won several awards such as the Best Comedy at the Palm Beach Int'l Playwrighting Competition, and the Long Beach Playhouse New Play Award.

Zoetic Stage and The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County proudly present David Sedaris' THE SANTALAND DIARIES, a side-splitting one-man play adapted for the stage by Tony Award-winning Broadway veteran Joe Mantello, December 8-23, 2011, in the intimate Carnival Studio Theater (Ziff Ballet Opera House). Starring Michael McKeever, one of South Florida's most produced and prolific artists, THE SANTALAND DIARIES is based on the outlandish, and true, chronicles of David Sedaris' unique experience during the holidays working as "Crumpet," a Christmas elf in Macy's Santaland display. This cult classic examines the desperation of unemployment, while celebrating the insanity of Christmas shopping and the ineffable 'cheer' of the holiday spirit.

The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds tells the story of Tillie, a hopeful and focused dreamer who struggles to keep her aspirations alive amidst the chaos of her home-life, controlled by a desperate mother wonting of love and a rebellious sister. Tensions are elevated on the night of the school science fair where Tillie is hoping to be acknowledged for her project on the effect of gamma rays on man-in-the-moon marigolds. First published in 1970, the play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, and the Obie Award for Best American Play.

Florida Studio Theatre Announces New Theatre Building & Renovation Project

At a press conference Florida Studio Theatre announced a multi-year capital improvement campaign to renovate the 6,000 sq. foot Gompertz Theatre and construct an 18,000 sq. foot addition with two new theatre spaces. The $5.6 million dollar campaign is the largest capital program in the 37-year old theatre's history and will double the number of renovated stages on the theatre's campus located in Sarasota's historic downtown.
