THE CONNIE CONVERSE UNIVERSE By Hope Levy SYNOPSIS Everyone has thought one time in their life about disappearing. Connie Converse actually did this; but why? In this engaging 55-minute cabaret, audiences are invited to explore the songs, life, and mystery surrounding Connie Converse, the first modern-day female folk singer-songwriter. Connie's songs, written in the 1950s, helped pave the way for future singer-songwriters of the 1960s. Despite her influence, Connie vanished without a trace in 1974, packing her belongings into her VW Bug and driving away, never to be seen or heard from again. Thirty-five years after her disappearance, her songs were rediscovered with the release of a CD in 2009 containing her original 1954 demos, which quickly went viral on Spotify. Singer-songwriter Hope Levy performs Connie's songs in this live acoustic show. Interwoven with Connie's haunting melodies are glimpses into Hope's own journey as a songbird chosen to carry Connie's legacy across the universe. Through sharing her own stories and experiences, Hope invites audiences to join her in unraveling the mysteries of Connie's life and the reasons behind her disappearance. From Connie's early days as an academic and editor to her emergence as a musical pioneer, "Connie Converse Universe" offers a poignant exploration of creativity, identity, and the enduring power of music. As Connie's long-lost songs find new life through Hope's heartfelt renditions, the show becomes not just a tribute to a forgotten artist, but a celebration of the enduring impact of one woman's voice.
