Babatunde Akinboboye, a classically-trained Nigerian American baritone, performs Hip Hopera, a genre-defying musical style fusing classical opera with the rhythmic intensity and attitude of hip-hop. Accompanied by DJ Amond Jackson, Babatunde traverses recognizable arias such as Toreador, Funiculi Funicula, and O Sole Mio alongside modern rhythms and spoken-word passages. Akinboboye has performed with the Los Angeles Opera, Opera San Jose, Opera Santa Barbara, Long Beach Opera, and Utah Opera, and created the Hip Hopera genre in 2018 with a viral video that gained over 10 million views.
