Student Blog: Your Back-to-School Essentials

School is just around the corner and you may be right in the midst of packing and thinking through move-in.  I am currently looking at my third year and thought maybe an unsolicited list of important things I have found may ease at least one person's mind. So, here it is:

The first is a backpack and not a tote bag. As someone very mindful about protecting my body, I find backpacks are the easiest on my back. Totes are cute for style, and many have them, but in the long run, backpacks have always felt more manageable for me. This is especially true for those 15-20 minute walks.

The next thing is some mode of transportation. My choice was learning how to longboard from my friends, however bikes, scooters, and skateboards are also popular. These are wonderful for the days when you are in a rush and just want to make it to class on time!

I would HIGHLY recommend getting a phone charger and computer charger to keep solely in your backpack. I have had so many instances where I have needed to sit down and study intensely but both my phone and computer are nearly dead. Get one charger for home and one for your bag and you should be ready for anything!

A good set of headphones is another essential for me. I love studying both in the library and in busy environments, but there are times you either need to zone everyone and everything out or you need to watch an important video. Either earbuds or headphones work (and no need for anything crazy expensive) but they have proved to be incredibly handy.

Something that has proven to be incredibly important (for me, at least) is a candle warmer. This may seem over-dramatic, however I have valid reasons. I am such an ambiance person. I need my room to be as cozy and to my liking as possible, especially after a long day. Lit candles have not been allowed in any of my living accommodations, yet, but candle warmers do not use fire, just heat. It makes my space feel so much more like home and I am still able to have my favorite scents without running the risk of a lawsuit.

College is all about finding what works for you! These are just a few things that make my life a little easier and more comfortable, so pay attention to those essentials that may offer you a little more joy!
