Grab your lunchbox, roll up your sleeves and pour yourself a cup of ambition for the Long Island premiere of Dolly Parton's "9 to 5: The Musical," tonight, July 18-Aug. 4 at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts."9 to 5: The Musical" is adapted from the 1980 film of the same name, which features Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as three working-class friends who stage an unorthodox corporate takeover of their greedy, sexist boss.

The arts are alive on Long Island -- and Arts Alive LI, a new island-wide multi-venue arts festival debuting October 2012, showcases Long Island's world-class arts and culture. Arts Alive LI, presented by the Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA) and Bethpage Federal Credit Union with additional support from Long Island Community Foundation, will celebrate existing arts and culture events, as well as newly developed events, scheduled to occur during the National Arts and Humanities month of October and share them on the newly designed ArtsAliveLI.org website.

Vacant Lot Theatre Co. Debuts A CHILD'S DRAWING OF A MONSTER, Now thru 7/21

A troupe of actors with a penchant for creating unexpected performances on stage will collaborate with an organization devoted to creating theater in unexpected locales as The Vacant Lot Theatre Company debuts, A Child's Drawing of a Monster, in a garage space re-imagined as a performance space by the nonprofit arts advocate, chashama. A selection of six abstract works by Brown University's head of playwrighting, Erik Ehn, A Child's Drawing of a Monster will open at Moe's Taxi, 26-15 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City (one block from Court Square subway stop on the 7, E, G and M lines), tonight, July 12, with additional shows on July 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20 and 21. Performance times are 8 PM Wednesday through Saturdays and Sunday at 7 PM. Tickets are $18 USD.

One of the best things about Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Hermans' La Cage' Aux Folles is that it is a fun show. I was even asked if I had a feather boa to bring with me. Sadly I did not, but that made me more excited to see this Tony winning musical. This incarnation, directed by Noel Ruiz, features a wonderful cast and is showing at CM PAC in Oakdale, Long Island, through July 29th.

O'Neill, Managing Director of the John W. Engeman Theater, Michael J. Dowling, president and chief executive officer of the North Shore-LIJ Health System and Kirk Kordeleski, CEO of Bethpage Federal Credit Union, held a press conference on Tuesday, July 3 to announce their new partnerships for the 2012-2013 Season. North Shore LIJ Health System is the official sponsor of the John W. Engeman Theater Main Stage for a three years and Bethpage Federal Credit Union is the sponsor for all Youth Programming for the next five years.
