Sculpture Center's THE ECCENTRICS Panel Discussion Set for The New School on 3/29
by BWW News Desk - March 26, 2016
In early 20th Century Russia, circus performers were referred to as "eccentrics," a term picked up by the St. Petersburg-based avant-garde group of artists, writers, and filmmakers who comprised the "Factory for the Eccentric Actor' or FEKS. For them, using stunts, gags, and tricks became ways to address the changing pace of life with new developments in technology and media culture. The circus emerged as a touchstone because it was a place where the impossible happened, and social orders and scientific laws were stretched to challenge the conventions of the reality outside of the tent.

And from the looks of things, I am going to be a very busy bee again this season as there are some thrilling shows on the horizon.

BWW Review: THE MUSIC MAN at the Noel S. Ruiz Theatre at CMPAC
by Melissa Giordano - March 16, 2016
Having previously attended a wonderful local production of Meredith Willson's Tony winning musical The Music Man, I was bursting with high hopes for the incarnation at The Noel S. Ruiz Theatre at CMPAC. In a strong main stage directorial debut, CMPAC vet Matt W. Surico - usually the Music Director and/or cast member - doesn't disappoint assembling an outstanding cast and crew for this classic show.
The Minstrel Players to Present Neil Simon's RUMORS
by BWW News Desk - March 16, 2016
The Minstrel Players are proud to present the hilarious Neil Simon comedy, 'Rumors'. Charley and Myra Brock are celebrating their tenth anniversary and have invited all their good friends to a party. Chris and Ken Gorman, a legal couple, are the first to arrive. They show up only to find that Myra is missing and Charley has 'accidentally' shot himself in the ear. Charley is unconscious and so unable to tell them what happened. Seeing as he's the deputy Mayor of New York, Ken and Chris begin to cover up the situation in hopes of avoiding a scandal. As the rest of the guests arrive--Claire and Len Ganz, Ernie and Cookie Cusack, and Cassie and Glenn Cooper--the story of Charley and Myra's anniversary gone awry grows and develops. All the guests are soon complicit in a ridiculous cover-up that no one quite understands. These fantastical events serve as a rich basis for great characters doing what Neil Simon does best--making the mundane...insane!

BWW Review: Andrew Lippa's WILD PARTY at SoLuna

The true talent of the cast takes center stage in SoLuna Studio's incarnation of Andrew Lippa's hit off-Broadway musical Wild Party. Their voices impressively and beautifully fill the Hauppauge theatre with Mr. Lippa's diverse score of pop/rock and jazz songs, among others. Netting Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel, and Obie Awards, Director Karen Braun takes a slightly reimagined look at this stirring tale.
