Quality Hill Playhouse in Kansas City, Missouri announced their 2015-2016 season. Century of the Songbook explores 100 years of music. Producing Artistic Director J. Kent Barnhart has programmed four original cabaret revues and one Broadway revue, each highlighting songs of the musical tradition called the Great American Songbook. The Playhouse season focuses on contributions to the Songbook by first Americans, big band leaders, women songwriters, Broadway musicals, and folk singer-songwriters.

The Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KC Rep) today announced groundbreaking ceremony for renovations of Spencer Theatre will be held on site at 10 a.m., Monday, April 27. Spencer Theatre is home of the Kansas City Repertory Theatre and is located in UMKC's James C. Olson Performing Arts Center. UMKC Chancellor Leo Morton, KC Rep Board Chair Scott Boswell, KC Rep Artistic Director Eric Rosen, KC Rep Executive Director Angela Gieras, and Angela Smart representing Hall Family Foundation will be the featured speakers.

As spectacular as the lights of the Aurora Borealis, that is how Spinning Tree Theatre lit up the stage on opening night of Fiddler on the Roof at the Just Off Broadway Theatre. Jerry Bock wrote the music, Sheldon Harnick the lyrics, and Joseph Stein the book for Fiddler on the Roof, a musical based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Dairyman) and others stories written by Sholem Aleichem.

Kansas City Repertory Theatre continues its 50th anniversary season with Sticky Traps, a powerful new play by KC Rep's Playwright in Residence, Nathan Louis Jackson, Directed by Resident Director, Kyle Hatley. Sticky Traps focuses on a small town not far from Kansas City, where a mother protects her gay son's honor when his funeral is protested by a local church. Her actions have unintended consequences that will test her whole family - and the power of their love -- in the face of hate. The production begins tonight, April 24th and runs through Sunday, May 24th at Copaken Stage in downtown Kansas City.

Guys and Dolls is based on two short stories, "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure" by Damon Runyan.

The Cat in the Hat now playing at the Coterie Theatre in Crown Center is a purr-fect entertainment package for the whole family. Heidi Van directs the Coterie production based on the book by Dr. Seuss. Katie Mitchell adapted and directed the original production by the National Theatre of Great Britain. Mitchell's adaption maintains the books fun simplicity and famous imagery, recreating the story page-by-page. A member of the audience Andrew Dearinger, a fifth grader, stated he was impressed with the interaction of the characters and the audience and thought it made the show more meaningful.

Spinning Tree Theatre closes its fourth season with the timeless musical classic Fiddler on the Roof. The 2014-2015 season of Spinning Tree featured several firsts for the theatrical production company. The addition of Fiddler on the Roof as the first year of four shows, the first time a Spinning Tree production was directed by someone outside the organization (Walter Coppage directing Black Pearl Sings!), and the first time the company produced a local playwright (Frank Higgins Black Pearl Sings!).
