Into The Woods- A Barn Junior production...for 7th - 12th grade students. Featuring high school and middle school from around the Kansas City Metro area
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

Book by James Lapine

Directed by Jason Coats

Musical Direction by Christina Schlosser

AUDITIONS:
Saturday, October 30th from 1pm - 4pm
Monday, November 1st from 6pm - 9pm

LOCATION:
St. Pius School
55th and Woodson in Mission, KS

EXPECTATION and PREPARATION:
Approximately 32 bars of one musical theatre selection (not from the show)
OR Approximately 16 bars of two contrasting musical theatre pieces (again, not from the show). Auditioners should bring sheet music that is marked and ready for the accompanist. Recordings will not be allowed. A capella auditions are highly discouraged, but allowed. Auditions may also consist of cold readings from the script.

Auditioners should have a resume. This may be a headshot, or can simply be a school photo. Students unable to make one of the open audition dates may request a private audition, but no guarantee is made that this can be accommodated.

Callbacks MAY be held throughout the next week/weekend if the production team feels they need to see more from an individual to fully assess their abilities. Since INTO THE WOODS does not have a flexible chorus, some roles may be double cast in order to allow more students to participate.

Rehearsals will begin Monday, 8 November. We generally rehearse M-Th from 600-900, and Sundays from 100-400. Not all actors are called for every rehearsal. We break for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday. During the winter school break, we hold "intensives," where we rehearse from 1000-400, and where much of the show comes together. The directors do recognize that travel conflicts, choir concerts, and final exams can all create conflicts this time of year, and take this into consideration when constructing the rehearsal schedule. NO CONFLICTS will be allowed during tech week, however, beginning Monday, 3 January. The show opens Friday 7 January, and closes Sunday 16 January.

PRODUCTION DATES:
January 7 - 16, 2011
Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm
Sundays at 2:00pm

All performances take place at...
The Barn Players Theatre
6219 Martway in Mission, KS

SYNOPSIS:
An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch...who raps? They're all among the cockeyed characters in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's fractured fairy tale. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy in the style of "The Princess Bride" becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.
