BREAKDOWN

ANDY SACHS (early 20’s, Black) An aspiring journalist, Andy is confident, impatient and very ambitious. Highly intelligent and goal oriented, she is nevertheless out of her element as a recent hire at Runway. Conveys the nuances of an individual going through a major life transition. Comedic skills. Extremely strong pop/rock voice with big range. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

MIRANDA PRIESTLY (50’s-early 60’s, White) Runway’s editor-in-chief and also… the Devil. Commanding, exceedingly intelligent, sophisticated and manipulative. Doesn’t have to do much to get everyone to fall in line. A superior leader, feared and respected by all. Excellent singer with exceptional comic timing, a commanding vocal presence and the ability to move between soulful pop and legit styles. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

EMILY CHARLTON (Mid-20’s, any ethnicity) Miranda’s first assistant. Tightly wound, she treats every part of her job like a life and death situation. A perfectionist with a myopic view of the world and her place in it. Deeply worried that Andy’s hiring will compromise the work environment she’s worked tirelessly to preserve. Versatile pop singer and very strong comedian. East Asian, South Asian and Middle Eastern actors encouraged to submit.

NIGEL OWENS (40’s-early 50’s, Black) Runway’s Design Director. Elegant, witty, confident and acerbic. Always impeccably dressed. Devoted to Miranda, and fashion. Underneath the refined, detached exterior is a generous-spirited man with a solid emotional core. Strong, versatile pop/rock tenor or baritenor. Excellent comic skills. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

CHRISTIAN THOMPSON (late 20’s-early 30’s, any ethnicity) A successful writer with an ego to match. Charming and easy-going, he offers Andy a glimpse of what a more “mature” man looks and acts like, later revealing his more roguish and duplicitous nature. Strong tenor.

NATE (early 20’s, any ethnicity) Andy’s boyfriend since college. An aspiring chef with a laid-back sense of humor, he is a sweetheart devoted to Andy and supportive of her goals. He later becomes conflicted as Andy’s ambition takes precedence over their relationship. Strong pop tenor with great comic timing. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

KARA (early 20’s, any ethnicity) One of Andy’s closest friends. The “cheerleader” of the group, Kara is loving and supportive, always trying to put a positive spin on things. Conflict-averse. Versatile pop/rock singer, excellent with harmonies. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

LILY (early 20’s, any ethnicity) One of Andy’s closest friends. Lily is the pragmatist, the straight shooter. She is not afraid to call out bad behavior, even when the culprit is her best friend. She has a very dry, deadpan sense of humor. Versatile pop/rock singer, excellent with harmonies. Latinx and Middle Eastern actors encouraged to submit. THIS ROLE IS CAST.
