BREAKDOWN

Author’s note: The women in this play are witty, intelligent, and above all, real characters. They in no way, shape, or form are meant to be portrayed as cartoons or caricatures.

TRUVY JONES – 40ish. Owner of the beauty shop. Big hearted and generous of spirit. Loves a little bit of gossip, just like the rest of us. Knows everything about everyone who walks into her shop, but is loyal and kind, and does her best to keep folks’ private business, private. Southern accent.

ANNELLE DUPUY-DESOTO – 19. Beauty shop assistant. Nervous, anxious, a bit more of an introverted soul than the rest. Deeply feeling and kind, trying to find her way in the world with a new marriage and a new job. Very talented hair stylist, she very much wants to be loved and to find her tribe. Southern accent.

CLAIREE BLECHER – 60-70ish. Widow of former mayor. Grand dame. An eccentric, elegant, and sophisticated woman of considerable means, who knows everyone’s business. Heart of gold, she deals with pain through sarcastic humor. She is very close friends with Ouiser. Southern accent.

SHELBY EATENTON-LATCHERIE – 25. Prettiest girl in town. The bride-to-be. Wants desperately to be a mother and a wife. She is passionate and strong-willed. And deeply loved by everyone. Southern accent.

M’LYNN EATENTON – 50ish. Shelby’s mother. Socially prominent career woman. She is overprotective at times, wants the best for her family. She always knows what’s best, and she is tough as nails, and as stubborn as her daughter. The heart of the play. Southern accent.

OUISER BOUDREAUX – 60-70ish. (Pronounced Weezer) Wealthy curmudgeon. Acerbic, but we must love her. Her witty humor is a relief during the heartbreaking moments. She is very close friends with Clairee. Southern accent.
