Come ready to dance. Prepare 16-32 Bars of contemporary-classic song in the style of the show in case you are asked to sing. Bring sheet music in your key. Accompanist will be provided. Bring current headshot and resume.

BREAKDOWN
This will be a re-imagined production of Beauty and the Beast. While set in old-world France it will have contemporary sensibilities and style, as well as a progressive aesthetic.
We are looking for strong, genuine, individual actors who bring themselves and their unique sensibilities to the words. WE ARE NOT interested in stock versions of these characters. Please note the ages listed in this breakdown.
All supporting roles will come from the ensemble, as will the understudies for principal roles. Ensemble roles include: Babette, Silly Girls, Monsieur D’Arque, Wolves, Villagers, Sorceress, Various Household Items. All must sing and dance with style and great prowess. Principal Roles listed below.
BELLE: (20-25 years old – character soprano) An uncharacteristic heroine, she’s extremely intelligent and full of adventure. A bit of an outcast, she’s as tough as she is feminine and as resourceful as she is vulnerable. More Katniss Everdeen than Disney princess.
BEAST: (about 30 years old – glorious contemporary baritone) Sexy and handsome: half-man, half-beast. He’s angry, impatient, self-absorbed, misanthropic, and not at all in touch with his deep-seated emotions. His humor comes forth the more he’s disarmed. More Wolverine than theme-park caricature.
GASTON: (about 30 years old – strong, booming baritone) Arrogant and vain, amusing but manipulative. He’s a self-knowing narcissist who becomes dangerous when his ego is threatened. More Mad Max than cartoon buffoon.
LEFOU: (about 25 years old) A tiny, dim-witted sidekick, living in Gaston’s shadow. An amusing coward who can be cruel.
MAURICE: (50’s – sings well) ROLE CAST - U/S ONLY. Odd, bumbling older man. A dreamer and an outcast. Think Christopher Lloyd.
LUMIERE (from 30-40 – character baritenor) Charming, crafty, suave. Half-man, half-candelabra. Desperate to be human again. More Johnny Depp than Maurice Chevalier.
COGSWORTH: (from 30-40 – character baritone) A tightly-wound bossypants. A bit of a control freak, but frightened underneath. Half-man, half-clock. Think Michael Urie.
MRS. POTTS: (40’s - mezzo) A warm but progressive, shrewd head of household. Half-Mom, half-teapot. More Laurie Metcalf than Angela Lansbury.
MADAME DE LA GRANDE BOUCHE: (50’s – soprano, of course) ROLE CAST - U/S ONLY. A faded, yet still grand former opera star. Half-Diva, half-wardrobe.
