NOTE FROM CASTING:
WaterTower Theatre is dedicated to diversity and inclusion as a core value, and as such we strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and gender identities to submit. In reference to the character descriptions below—most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. Let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide (from language developed by Kevin Kantor and Emily Tarquin from the Actors Theatre of Louisville).
SYNOPSIS:
Always… Patsy Cline is based on the true story of Patsy Cline’s friendship with Houston housewife Louise Seger, and features many of Cline’s best-known songs. The show blends humor, heart, and country music in a celebration of an iconic voice and an unlikely friendship.
SEEKING:
Patsy Cline – Female-presenting, adult (typically plays 30s). A gifted country music icon with warmth, wit, strength, and emotional depth. An excellent singer with strong country phrasing/storytelling and the ability to carry the musical’s many songs with authenticity and ease. Captures Patsy’s charm, humor, and vulnerability.
Louise Seger – Female-presenting, adult (typically plays 30s–50s, depending on concept). A Texas housewife and devoted Patsy fan with a big personality, comic timing, and deep heart. Serves as narrator and scene partner throughout, guiding the audience through the story with warmth, humor, and emotional honesty. Possesses excellent storytelling skills and is comfortable with direct address to the audience; singing ability is helpful.
