ART by Yazmina Reza
Marc (40’s): the self-proclaimed leader and intellectual, Marc somewhat contradictorily has little appreciation for modern art. Always having fancied himself mentor to the younger men, a void opens up inside him as he wrestles with the possibility that the student has outgrown the teacher.
Serge: (40’s): well-to-do, divorced, and overcompensating, Serge has always relied on his two best friends for company and comfort. Influenced by Marc’s domination but desirous of making a statement, he purchases a ridiculously expensive painting to (perhaps unknowingly) declare his aesthetic equality, which Marc is not having.
âYvan (30’s): meekest of the trio and something of a pet in the eyes of the older men throughout his aimless but entertaining youth, Yvan is drawn haplessly into the argument as a kind of referee. Already stressed out and conflicted about his upcoming nuptials and ill-fitting attempts at normalcy, he desperately wants Marc and Serge to make up already so that he might, finally, get a little of their attention for himself.
DR. JEKYLL AND MR HYDE adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher
