Grusha

A young, innocent kitchen maid, (20s – 30s) who has a intuitive instinct for goodness, even when it is not in her best interest. Decent, down to earth, idealistic.

Azdak

(60s – 70s) a fellow who has fallen on hard times. Brecht describes him as"a man who has known great disappointment and is allergic to disappointing others." Something of an operator who actually has a heart for the down trodden.

Simon/As cast

A young, down to earth, good hearted soldier (20s – 30s) with a wry sense of humor who is in love with Grusha.

The Governor's Wife/The Mother In Law/as cast

Older Character Actress (40s/50s) with good comedian chops. Should be able to play a range of roles from Aristocratic to Farmer's wife.

The Corporeal/Shuva/The Fat Prince/as cast

Older Character Actor (40's/50"s) who should have strong comedic chops. Needs to play an array of characters that ranges from a disaffected aristocrat, a pompous military man, and a not too smart officer of the law.

Yussef/Iron Shirt/as cast

Comic Actor (30s/40s) who needs to play a variety of roles which includes Yussef a young man who is avoiding going to war by pretending to be on his deathbed, a not too bright dog soldier, a prosecuting attorney.

Cook, Peasant Woman, Young Lady, Wedding Guest/As Cast

Young Woman (20s/30s)- to play a variety of roles that act as a foil to the good intentions of Grusha.
