At an impasse with her family over how she should spend her autumn years, Alexandra’s long-absent son enters as a most unlikely mediator to try and save his mother’s life as much as his own. One, an emerging hip-hop artist, the other, a high-level Afghan interpreter, both who fight to navigate the pitfalls of romance amid the cultural landmines of religious differences and political unrest. Charming and brilliant. = TAPPIN’ THRU LIFE Co-Production with Alliance Theatre and Cleveland Playhouse By Maurice Hines Directed by Jeff Calhoun Kreeger Theater: LORT B 1st Preview: 10/15/2013 Open: 11/21/2013 Close: 12/29/2013 With song and dance, Maurice Hines pays tribute to his brother, Gregory, and the singers who have inspired him, from Frank Sinatra to Lena Horne. To help bring the history of American tap to life, Hines brings The Diva Orchestra, an all-female nine-piece big band. All principal roles have been cast. Directed by Kenny Leon Fichandler Stage: LORT B 1st rehearsal: 10/29/2013 Open: 12/5/2013 Close: 1/5/2014 A progressive white couple’s proud liberal sensibilities are put to the test when their daughter, fresh from an overseas romance, brings her African-American fiancé home to meet them. Personal beliefs clash with the mores of the late 60’s in this exploration of family and culture. TO BE CAST: HILARY ST. GEORGE (43, Caucasian, Female): Assistant Director of the Drayton Gallery. DOCTOR JOHN PRENTICE: (37, African-American, Male): A medical research doctor. MONSIGNOR RYAN (75, Caucasian, Male): Longtime family friend of the Draytons. Directed by Molly Smith Fichandler Stage: LORT B 1st rehearsal: 1/2/2014 Open: 2/6/2014 Close: 3/9/2014 Tough-as-nails matriarch Mother Courage profits off the very war that steals her children from her one by one. This unique in-the-round staging of Brecht’s landmark anti-war play fuses politics, satire and music. TO BE CAST: EILIF (20s to 40s, Any Ethnicity, Male): The warlike son, eager to join battle and carry out its brutal business. SWISS CHEESE (20s to 40s, Any Ethnicity): Suffers from an excessive sense of duty and honesty that his mother has instilled in him because he is not particularly bright. CHAPLAIN (30s-60s, Any Ethnicity, Male): Loyal to the Swedish monarchy but frustrated with the realities and consequences of war, particularly how it damages his chances of returning to priesthood. Dependent on Mother Courage for food. COOK (50s to 60s, Any Ethnicity, Male): An aging Don Juan, darkly ironic, bears no loyalty to greedy rulers who exploit him. YVETTE (20s to 50s, Any ethnicity, Female): A camp prostitute who makes her fortune by marrying and inheriting the estate of a lecherous old Colonel. ENSEMBLE (Male and Female, Any Ethnicity): Seeking actors who can sing and have a facility for language. For thirteen tumultuous days, President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn host Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in an attempt to create peace in the Middle East. TO BE CAST: JIMMY CARTER (43, White Male): 39th president of the United States. ROSALYNN CARTER (40, White Female): First Lady and wife of Jimmy Carter. MENACHEM BEGIN (54, Israeli, Male): Sixth Prime Minister of the State of Israel.
