Prepare for an evening filled with the rich history and vibrant spirit of 5 Points, Denver. Coined “The Harlem of the West,” as this performance brings to light the cultural legacy of this historic neighborhood through a blend of dance, music, and storytelling.

The night promises captivating choreography and a unique blend of ballet, swing, breakdance, and contemporary movement, all inspired by the Jazz Age and set to the innovative 1960 score by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
About the Production This year’s 5 Points Nutcracker continues LuneAseas’ mission to celebrate community and culture through immersive, multidisciplinary art. Audiences will be drawn into the tales of 5 Points’ remarkable past as Larea Edwards (the Flobot, Black Music Matters) reimagines classic Nutcracker characters with parallels to real-life local legends, portraying a narrative enriched by the African-American experience. Musical director Tenia Nelson infuses every note with the spirit of jazz, accompanied by an all-star band of local jazz legends. Choreographer Constance Harris (Raw Grooves) infuses Afro beat and infectious fresh energy, and Jamal “Moon” Johnson ( award winning dance artist) brings a dazzling new architecture of movement.
The performance will feature dazzling visuals, dynamic props, and an interactive experience supported by sponsors including the Denver Arts & Venues, the Eulipions Fund, Colorado Health Foundation, Bohemian Foundation, Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, and Colorado Creative Industries.
