BWW Review: John Douglas Thompson as SATCHMO AT THE WALDORF
by Christi Esterle - February 22, 2016
Bringing to life an iconic personality like Louis Armstrong is always something of a tightrope walk: the mannerisms must be there, yet the performance must not descend into caricature. It is a balancing act that John Douglas Thompson is remarkably adept at, and he is aided by Satchmo at the Waldorf's central conceit, which about the man behind Armstong's familiar public persona: a man who smoked weed, slept around, and got in deep with gangsters, a man who didn't talk much about the racial issues of his lifetime but who definitely had opinions about social injustice and the struggles of a black man trying to survive in a white man's world.

BWW Review: A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE & MURDER at Denver Center
by Chris Arneson - February 19, 2016
There are a few places in downtown Denver where you can learn to murder someone, probably. I'd recommend you go with the one where there's singing and dancing. A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder is playing at the Buell Theatre through the end of February. The other options probably aren't quite as pleasant. (Not to be confused with Murder for Two, playing just across the way in the Garner Galleria.)

BWW Review: THE NORMAL HEART at Vintage Theatre
by colin roybal - February 17, 2016
'The Normal Heart' by Larry Kramer is not a light-hearted piece of theatre. It is a heavy drama about the terrifying 'new cancer' that ravaged the gay community in the early 1980s. It is dark and frustrating, and beautiful, and the script demands a lot of a cast. It seems that Vintage Theatre Company was up to that challenge and more.

BWW Review: University of Northern Colorado's THE PIANO LESSON
by Felicia Tassone - February 08, 2016
The Piano Lesson is an important part of American theater.  August Wilson wrote a story that needs to be told, now more than ever.  And a story which asks the important questions like, What do you do with your legacy, and how do you best put it to use?  Are we forced to live in the shadows of our ancestors choices?

by Chris Arneson - February 05, 2016
The Addams Family has been playing BDT Stage in Boulder since November, but even though death is just around the corner for this show's run, it still manages to be everything but neat, sweet and petite. (Which is exactly what an homage to the classic family deserves.)
