Eastern ancestral roots meet North American Jazz
Experience a spellbinding musical journey that weaves the elegance of Vietnamese and Chinese traditions with the fire of contemporary jazz as the Huu Bac Quintet performs at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Co 80226 at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7. Tickets start at $33.00
The Huu Bac Quintet invites audiences on a cinematic journey where Eastern ancestral roots seamlessly intertwine with the improvisational spirit of North American jazz. Led by Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist Huu Bac Quach, the ensemble features an extraordinary dialogue between rare instruments — the haunting Vietnamese àn bu, the expressive Chinese erhu and the Andean quena — all backed by a powerhouse jazz rhythm section. This unique fusion creates sweeping, colorful soundscapes that are as lyrically delicate as they are rhythmically vibrant.
By bridging Asian, North American and South American traditions, the quintet offers a truly global musical experience that transcends cultural boundaries. Critics have praised the ensemble’s performances for "enthralling concertgoers" with a signature style that is both contemporary and deeply soulful. The result is an irresistible, world-class fusion that feels fresh and alive, transforming a diverse array of cultural influences into a singular, breathtaking performance.
