About this studio

Dance Theatre of Harlem is an American professional ballet company and school based in Harlem, New York City, founded in 1969 and describing its brand as Classically American. Alongside a touring company and an arts education and community engagement program called Dancing Through Barriers, it runs the Dance Theatre of Harlem School, which provides classical ballet and dance training to children and youth aged 3 to 18 and aims to make students of diverse backgrounds feel supported and physically and emotionally safe. Ballet classes follow the DTH Syllabus, and students also study selected other disciplines to broaden their development. The school is split into a Lower School, taught on Saturdays between 9am and 1.30pm, and an Upper School running weeknights from 5pm to 8pm, with a September-May Fall/Spring program; new students begin with a placement class. Additional offerings include open-level Saturday youth drop-in classes, other drop-in classes and a Summer Intensive for dancers aged 8 to 24.
