About this studio
BAILA Society (BASo) is a cultural arts organization and dance school in New York City that has taught New York-style salsa in NYC and abroad since 2005, directed by Ahtoy Juliana and Edwin Tolentino. Students explore the wide spectrum of salsa and Afro-Latinx dance, including Afro-Cuban folkloric forms, with classes framed around movement as storytelling, cultural preservation and community care. Classes are open to all levels, from complete beginners to experienced dancers, and cover the history and culture behind the music as well as the steps. The organization emphasises consent and safety through its 'A Safer & Braver Space' policy and gender equality, with lead and follow roles open to anyone.
