Nearly two decades before the 1969 Stonewall riots there was Harry, Rudi, Chuck, Bob and Dale. In the 1950s when gay men could be arrested for simply holding hands in public these five brave men stood up for their rights and started the first organized gay rights group in the United States, The Temperamentals…this is their true story. The Temperamentals tells the story of the communist Harry Hay and the Viennese refugee and designer Rudi Gernreich, as they fall in love while building the organization, along with Chuck Rowland, Bob Hull, and Dale Jennings, in the pre-Stonewall United States.
