In Mahler's mighty "Resurrection" symphony, he dramatically addresses life-and-death issues as only he could-"one is battered to the ground and then raised on angels' wings to the highest heights." CSO Music Director Jean-Marie Zeitouni opens the 2013-14 season by leading the Columbus Symphony Chorus, featured guest vocalists Dominique Labelle (soprano) and Sasha Cooke (mezzo-soprano), and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, including an off-stage brass ensemble echoing the last judgement from another world. This will also be the official debut of Jean-Sebastien Roy as the CSO's new concertmaster.

CATCO Is Kids opened its 2013-14 children's series with a short, 3 performance run of a kid-friendly version of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Nights Dream", entitled "The Rude Mechanicals" at the Columbus Performing Arts Center last night. This adaptation, created by local playwright, Ed Graczyk, modifies the convoluted storyline of one of the Bard's most popular tales to a 45 minute, family-accessible version that Directors, Joe Bishara and Liz Wheeler, ambitiously tackle with a cast of 17 children.

But now that he's finally gone completely invisible, Colin discovers other invisible workers in the office, and together they think they might have come up with a plan to get Fran to finally notice Colin. All she has to do is turn her head.

The Columbus Children's Theatre kicked off a celebration of their 50th Birthday with the Columbus Youth Jazz Orchestra on August 2 at the Columbus Commons. A beautiful night, Mark Donavan led the CYJO in a Duke Ellington roundup of smooth jazz. The young, talented troupe played like seasoned professionals as they showcased their mature skills. Making an appearance from the swamp land was Shrek and Fiona as they danced with the crowd to "I'm a Believer", promoting their show at the Lincoln Theatre September 19-29.

Oscar Levant once said, 'There's a fine line between genius and insanity.' And I have to admit, when I heard that Shots in the Dark was taking on the Columbus premiere of the acclaimed 2010 Pulitzer Prize winner for drama-'Next to Normal', I wasn't sure which side of that line they'd fall on.
