About the Theatre

Babel Box Theater is a cross-cultural theater that produces an unique style of production -Cinematic live theater! Cinematic live theater is a hybrid performance style that integrates cinematic techniques—such as live video feeds, digital projections, cinematic lighting, and rapid scene transitions—directly into a live stage performance. This approach creates a continuous, high-energy narrative where the stage space is constantly alive with action, bridging the gap between theater’s immediate, raw emotion and film’s visual language. Cinematic live theater is arguably one of the most effective ways to modernize traditional plays, as it solves the "distance" problem—both physical and emotional—that new audiences often feel with classics like Shakespeare or Greek tragedies. So whatever upcoming productions may be, re-imagined classics or new works, rest assure that Babel Box Theater will make it exciting by combining the unpredictable tension of a live event with the high-impact visuals of a movie, creating a unique "electric" atmosphere.

Review: GREASE at PORTHOUSE/Kent State University

by Roy Berko · June 24, 2026

GREASE, Porthouse-style, is a nostalgic reminder of the era of mid-1900’s and left those of a certain-age satisfied and maybe those of the Information Age/Digital Age asking “what was the attitude, grease and angst” all about.  …

Review: THE WIZ at Stranahan Theatre

by Julie Zatko · May 27, 2026

Dorthy Gale arrives at Stranahan Theater by tornado (and tour bus!) as Broadway in Toledo brings the National Tour of The Wiz to town this week. I had a delightful night easing on down the road with familiar characters reimagined in a creative and moving way. The production is top-quality, featuring…
