Raue Center Announces Sage Studio Summer Classes

Raue Center For The Arts is excited to announce that registration is now open for the Sage Studio 2018 summer session. Students can spend the summer exploring their creative talents with classes including the Junior Musical Theatre Workshop, the High School Musical Dance Intensive and the Musical Theatre Workshop!

"Our program has grown from one summer class in 2012 to 12 classes this summer - and I couldn't be more thrilled to present our busiest season yet! We have developed some incredible musical theatre classes for ages 7-18 and we're proud to continue to set ourselves apart with our small class sizes and staff of Working Theatre professionals from across the country," says Sage Studio Program Manager, Amanda Flahive. "Our students are not just have a great time, but are also honing their skills and learning from the best in the business!"

Sage Studio offers the ultimate learning experience for students aged 7-18 who are interested in the world of theatre. All classes are led by working professional actors, directors and designers, including those from Raue Center's in-house professional theatre company, Williams Street Repertory. Students are given the opportunity to make important connections and learn from the best, and classes are also kept to a maximum of 16 students to ensure personal attention and a hands-on experience. Students have gone to pursue careers at top colleges and universities, and have appeared in productions across Chicagoland!

The Junior Musical Theatre Workshop, one of the most popular courses in the Sage Studio Junior series, is back for another sure-to-sell-out class in summer 2018! This one-week program will introduce young students to the exciting world of musical theatre performance. The Junior Musical Theatre Workshop is offered for students ages 7 - 10 June 25 - 29 and July 9 - 30 and for students ages 11-14 June 18 - 22, July 16 - 20 and August 6 - 10. Tuition is $150 and the course has no prerequisites.

This summer, Sage Studio proudly presents the third course in its intensive series focusing on core theatre skills! The High School Musical Theatre Dance Intensive is suitable for dancers of ALL levels - from experienced performers looking to refine their skills to "singers who move" who are looking to build their dance vocabulary and shine at their next dance call.

The Basics course for beginner level dancers ages 15 - 18 will be held June 11 - 15. Tuition is $150 and requires no previous experience. The Extras course for intermediate to advanced level dancers ages 15 - 18 will be held June 18 - 22. Tuition is $150 and previous dance experience must be submitted along with application for review.

Sage Studio will once again present its popular signature workshop during the summer 2018 session: the Musical Theatre Workshop. This three-week intensive musical theatre program is geared toward kids interested in pursuing a career in theatre. Students will be taught by industry professionals and explore all aspects of classic and modern musical, with a focus on the three core performance disciplines unique to the genre: acting, singing and dance.

The Musical Theatre Workshop for students ages 15 - 18 will be offered June 9 - 26. Tuition is $225 and enrollment will be based on a placement audition and limited to 12 students. Students must exhibit an appreciation and aptitude for musical theatre and are required to submit a video audition of a musical theatre song (no more than three minutes), which can be a cappella or accompanied. If you are unable to submit a video, please contact Caitlin Quinn at cquinn@rauecenter.org to schedule an in-person audition.

"What sets Sage Studio apart is our focus on the process as well as the product - making sure that our students are learning proper technique and honing their skills in the classroom, then applying those skills in performance. Our teachers focus on the 'one on one' experience that helps kids discover their natural ability and take it to the next level," says Flahive.

The application deadline for all summer classes is May 25, 2018. Visit rauecenter.org to download an application or request additional information. To register, submit completed application materials to Caitlin Quinn at education@rauecenter.org.
