BWW Review: The Central New York Playhouse Presents SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE
by Natasha Ashley - February 22, 2020
The Central New York Playhouse is now entertaining audiences with the delightful romantic comedy Shakespeare in Love. The play by Lee Hall is adapted from the popular 1998 film of the same name. With numerous productions of Romeo and Juliet occurring throughout Central New York the timing is perfect for a refreshing relief, a play that is about writing Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Even better, the production is witty, refreshing, and entertaining.

MCH Presents US Premiere Of 115-Year-Old Work
by BWW News Desk - February 20, 2020
Is it possible that a piece of music hailed at its 1905 World Premiere in Vienna as 'a beautiful, engrossing work with an appealing lyricism,' and composed by one of the city's rising musical stars, has never been played in the U.S.? The internationally-acclaimed Music from Copland House ensemble corrects this 115-year lapse when it gives the American Premiere of Bruno Walter's heroic Piano Quintet on its mainstage series at the historic John Jay Homestead, 400 Jay Street (Route 22), Katonah, NY. The concert, Sounds from the Gilded Age, takes place on Sunday afternoon, March 8, 2020 at 3pm.
BWW Review: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at Proctors Maintains its Delicate Balance.
by Marc Savitt - February 20, 2020
I want to state clearly this a very good production with a large group of talented professionals. Notable performances include Yehezkel Lazarov as Tevye and Ms. Murphy, Froch, and Barenblat as his daughters, Tzeitel, Hodel, and Chava respectively. The choreography originally by Jerome Robbins, recreated by Christopher Evans, with new choreography by Hofesh Schecter is also noteworthy. Overall, however, I felt the production did not quite reach its potential. While this is not a re-imagined Fiddler, there are infusions of some new elements that for me, just didn't work.

Theatre444 Will Present THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, A Fundraiser For Safe Harbors Of The Finger Lakes
by BWW News Desk - February 17, 2020
Theatre444 will bring The Vagina Monologues to the stage, with all proceeds to benefit Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes. Eve Ensler wrote the first draft of the monologues in 1996 (there have been several revisions since) following interviews she conducted with 200 women about their views on sex, relationships, and violence against women. In an interview with Women.com, Ensler said that her fascination with vaginas began because of growing up in a violent society. 'Women's empowerment is deeply connected to their sexuality.' Ensler states that in 1998, the purpose of the piece changed from a celebration of vaginas and femininity to a movement to stop violence against women. This was the start of the V-Day movement which has continued strong every year since, has turned into a worldwide phenomenon, and a very successful non-profit organization. The V-Day global activist movement to end violence against all women and girls is more active than ever. Every February women all over the world ban together in this movement and Theatre444 is proud to be a part of it.
