BWW Interviews: Kyle Robinson of SHAPING SOUND Talks Heading Back on Tour With a Brand New Cast

Acclaimed dance company Shaping Sound has become a household name among dance professionals since its first national tour back in 2013. Under the artistic director of Emmy Award winner Travis Wall, alongside founders and choreographers Nick Lazzarini, Teddy Forance, and Kyle Robinson, the group has come a long way since its beginnings on Oxygen's "All The Right Moves" in 2012. Following a successful tour this past winter, the group is back on the road with a reincarnation of their hit show. Robinson, who toured with "West Side Story" before joining the company, spoke to us about bringing in a new cast for the production and gearing up to perform a truly spectacular masterpiece.

Emily Ferranti of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS Talks Taking Gershwin's Beautiful Music Across The Country

Broadway's Tony Award winning hit "An American in Paris" is dancing its way into Schenectady this week as the musical's first national tour will begin previews at Proctors Theatre this Friday. With a score composed from some of George and Ira Gershwin's most famous tunes, the show follows Jerry Mulligan, an American soldier who decides to stay in Paris following World War II. He soon finds himself not only entangled in the country's luxurious culture and art, but in a love triangle that may lead him to his soul mate. Among the talented cast gathered for the production are Garen Scribner, Sara Etsy, Etai Benson, Ryan Steele, and Emily Ferranti who steps into the role of Milo Davenport. Ferranti was kind enough to speak with us last week in midst of her hectic rehearsal schedule about her excitement to be working on this production.

The Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival has now opened its fourth premiere musical at Auburn's Merry-Go-Round Playhouse for the 2016 season with the regional premiere of TENDERLY: THE ROSEMARY CLOONEY MUSICAL. The two-person musical is written Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman and was originally developed and premiered by The Human Race Theatre Company.
Hoff-Barthelson Music School Pays Tribute to Memory of Faculty Member Edmund Niemann

It is with deep sadness that Hoff-Barthelson Music School announces the death of faculty member Edmund Niemann. A supremely gifted musician, he will be sorely missed by the students whose lives he touched and by all who had the good fortune to have known him. Mr. Niemann joined the Hoff-Barthelson faculty in 1999. During his tenure with the School, he served as a member of the piano and advanced level musicianship faculties. An ardent advocate for the study and performance of contemporary music, Mr. Niemann was the coordinator of the School's annual Music of Our Time contemporary music festival. He also created the School's Performers Showcase.

This fall, the White Plains Performing Arts Center is offering an opportunity to show our students that there is more to theatre than just Broadway. Regional theatres, like the WPPAC make up a huge part of the professional performing arts industry. This October, WPPAC is producing the NY Regional Premiere of HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL and we wanted to spread the word as we know the show has been a favorite amongst the teens in our programs for a few years. This is the first professional production in NY since it has closed off Broadway and it is right in your backyard!

One year ago the members of the Adirondack Shakespeare Company were scattered in the emergency room at Glens Falls Hospital, at Albany Medical Center, on a remote hillside in North River frantically calling family members and friends of five people who were in a terrible car crash. It was the day the cast was arriving; and instead of having pizza and an introductory Welcome-to-the-Adirondacks meeting, they were reeling with shock and fear, and wondering if everyone was going to be alright.
